4. Trip to Donegal, Ireland, 16th - 29th of June, 1999.

I present this wonderful journey mostly as a report in pictures.

Jim Dick´s - Where we stayed. Low tide in the bay Horn Head - very much to the west in Europe
This cottage made of stone was our dwelling during the visit in lovely Donegal. We rented it from our dear artist friend Kerstin.

The first day we took a long walk at the low tide beach in chilly and windy weather. Sun and rain every day was to come. That´s Ireland.

At Horne Head,  only the Ocean lay in front of us and we enjoyed the Irish nature - Atlantic plants and various seabirds. Here Jerry is observing among other birds: a Peregrin falcon, Razorbills, Guillemots, Fulmars, Choughs and Twites.
Fuchsia-bushes flourish everywhere on the coastline. Small orchids on the moor-bog Clouds are rolling in.
Fulmars were seen soaring everywhere along the steep cliffsides. This one came very close to us because of a near nest. Fuchsias, originating from the very south of South America have been introduced and are now very common in the landscape. Orchids, a handful of species, we met in the bogs scattered all around  the peet-land. This small one is probably Dact.. traunsteineri. Clouds, mist, rain and sunshine and everywhere sheep, cows, horses and a couple of wild Red Dears, Foxes and of course Rabbits.
Sleave League - highest see-cliff in Europe Muckish Mountain Famine Graveyard The bluest sky ever
Sleave League - is the highest seecliff in all Europe. It´s visited by thousands of tourists every year. We could never se the top because of the clouds. Muckish Mountain near Dunfanaghy followed us everywhere on our tour in the Northwest Corner of Donegal Province of Eire We stoped to have a look at the Famine Graveyard, where victims from the Great Famine, due to bad potatoe crop, were burried a Hundred Years ago . Blue skies and snowywhite clouds in the clear and fresh air near the Atlantic makes a prefect weather for all kind of artistery. The light was really superb.
